Was giving Anthony Barr an extension a mistake?

Anthony Barr is an up and down player who can have a brilliant season and some really bad games. That’s not to say that he lacks the athleticism or ability to be a game-changing player in Mike Zimmer’s defense.

For a little while, it looked as though the Minnesota Vikings were going to let Barr walk in free agency, but a last minute offer changed his mind and brought him back to the purple and gold. However, there is a big cost to go with this move.

The signing does come with a hefty price tag, which is something the team can’t really afford at this time. Plus, it pushes Eric Wilson back into a backup role. Can Barr play well enough to earn his contract? And is he worth the money that could have been allocated elsewhere?

Secondary question: Should the Vikings replace Ben Gedeon?

Even though he played during less than 30 percent of the team’s defensive snaps last year, Ben Gedeon has been solid, but not spectacular in his efforts. With the team using a sixth-round pick on Cameron Smith and there being other options on the team, Gedeon’s spot might be challenged in the future.
