With three of the next four years booked to host the NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings will need to make a strong push if they want a chance in 2022.
Approximately one year ago, the Minnesota Vikings submitted an application to host the NFL Draft in one of the upcoming years. Sadly, it appears as though the league wasn’t too keen on the Land of 10,000 Lakes having that honor.
Recently, the NFL announced three of the four NFL cities who will host the biggest day in the lives of many college football players and Minnesota wasn’t included among them according to the list shared by league insider Ian Rapoport on Twitter.
Here is the current schedule for NFL Draft hosts:
- 2020: Las Vegas, Nevada (Raiders)
- 2021: Cleveland, Ohio (Browns)
- 2022: –vacant–
- 2023: Kansas City, Missouri (Chiefs)
Rapoport did say that 2022 would likely be a “big city” to host the draft but the question of whether or not Minneapolis would qualify has to be asked. Still, that doesn’t mean the Vikings or fans of the team should give up.
Fans are encouraged to tweet Roger Goodell (@nflcommish) with their messages of support, much like this one:
The team also needs to push a bit to be accommodating to the NFL if they want a chance to host the draft. The league already knows that the Vikings are interested in hosting the draft and making them wait until 2024 or beyond would be quite harsh.
Of course, hosting the draft would bring a ton of people to the Twin Cities much like what happened for Super Bowl LII, which not only hosted the game but a ton of events in the state of Minnesota.
As a fan, it would be fantastic to see U.S. Bank Stadium host the 2020 NFL Draft. Not only does it seat 73.000 people, but there is a great area outside which can accommodate the overflow and create an atmosphere of excitement. The NFL needs to make the right decision here…and that means choosing the Minnesota Vikings.
