Trevor Siemian – QB (New York Jets)

No Vikings fans were hurt when Trevor Siemian signed with the New York Jets during the 2019 offseason. He never had to play in a meaningful game for the Vikings in 2018 and when he played in meaningless ones, he looked awful.

When Siemian was under center during the 2018 preseason, Minnesota’s offense just had no rhythm. He was outplayed by second-year man Kyle Sloter, but his experience as a starter earned him the backup job to Kirk Cousins.

He will also have the experience edge in the backup quarterback battle with the Jets. His primary competition will be Luke Falk and Davis Webb. Maybe one of those guys will surprise in camp, but it’s doubtful and the job should go to the experienced veteran in Siemian.

Prediction: Earns the backup job

Tom Compton – OG (New York Jets)

Every Viking fan was counting their lucky stars when Tom Compton signed with the Jets. This guy was an absolute turnstile a season ago with Minnesota. Maybe a change of scenery will do Compton good.

He has no chance of beating out current Jets starter Brian Winters. The flip side is that Compton has no real competition for the backup job.

He will make the team, but the Jets better hope he never sees the field. If he does Darnold could be taking huge hits and that could lead to Trevor Siemian seeing playing time. Which would then lead to New York having another top three draft pick next year.

Prediction: Earns a backup guard job

Andrew Sendejo – S (Philadelphia Eagles)

It was no real surprise when the Vikings cut Andrew Sendejo this offseason. They have a couple of emerging young guys in Anthony Harris and Jayron Kearse and needed the cap room. Sendejo’s play has been hit or miss the last couple of seasons, and his name was usually only called when he made an illegal hit on a receiver costing him money and his team field position.

Sendejo signed with the Eagles and after the starters, there isn’t a ton of talent on their safety depth chart. Sendejo should make this team, and if Malcolm Jenkins gets hurt, Sendejo could see himself starting some games for the Eagles in 2019.

Prediction:

  • 16 games played, 3 starts
  • 36 tackles, 1 interception
