Zimmer doing his best to fix the kicking game
It’s not much of a secret that the Vikings’ kickers and head coach Mike Zimmer haven’t been the best of friends during his tenure with the team. But Zimmer has had plenty of reasons to be grumpy when it comes to the recent past of Minnesota’s kicking situation.
After hiring Marwan Maalouf as the Vikings’ new special teams coach earlier this offseason, Zimmer also mentioned the possibility of hiring a coach to specifically work with the team’s kickers.
During this year’s OTAs, we found out the this is something Minnesota actually went out and did. It was revealed by Vikings this past week that Nate Kaeding has been added to the staff as a part-time kicking coach.
Kaeding spent nine seasons in the NFL as a member of both the San Diego Chargers and Miami Dolphins. He made 86.2 percent of his field goal attempts during his time in the league and Minnesota is hoping that he will be able to help their kicking situation improve this year.
