No major awards
Since Jim Marshall doesn’t have the All-Pro selections, some major seasonal awards would likely help his case for an induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Awards like MVP or Defensive Player of the Year would definitely make it a lot easier for him to get into Canton.
But, once again, Marshall was never the recipient of any major awards during his professional football career. Unlike his teammate, Alan Page, who was named both the NFL MVP and the NFL Defensive Player of the Year by the Associated Press in 1971.
Awards like these are basically like a golden ticket into the Hall of Fame and Marshall won zero of them during his career.
Some may think it’s unfair to compare Marshall to a player like Page or anyone else who has been named the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year. But these are the types of guys that end up in the Hall of Fame and if one wants to argue for the former Vikings defensive end to be a Hall of Famer, then these are the players that he will be compared to.
