Minnesota Vikings: 10 best fifth round draft picks of all time
By Adam Carlson
1. Ed Sharockman, DB – 1961
A right cornerback out of Pittsburgh, Ed Sharockman spent his entire eleven-season career with the Minnesota Vikings, where he accomplished quite a bit in the secondary from 1961 through 1972.
The highlight game of Sharockman’s career was in Week 5 of the 1970 season against the Dallas Cowboys when he not only had a pick-six on quarterback Craig Morton but he blocked a punt and returned that for a score as well. Minnesota won that game handily, outscoring Dallas 54-13.
For his career, Sharockman played in 142 games and started 125 contests where he intercepted 40 passes, returning three for touchdowns. In addition, he recovered nine fumbles and scored once more.
A member of the 1969 NFL Championship team under head coach Bud Grant, he was also named one of the 50 Greatest Vikings. Sadly, he passed away in August of 2017, leaving behind a great legacy.
Who do you think is the best fifth-round draft pick in Minnesota Vikings history? And is there anyone who was left off this list who should be included? Let us know your opinions in the comments section!
