5. 2003 Vikings

Like the 2016 season, the 2003 Vikings began the year with an impressively fast start. Minnesota won each of their first six games in 2003 and it seemed like they were going to be one of the top contenders in the NFC.

But just like 2016, this Vikings team suddenly forgot to how to win after beginning the season undefeated.

Minnesota lost six of their next nine games and they entered their final matchup with the Arizona Cardinals with a 9-6 record and chance to still get into the playoffs with a win. All the Vikings had to do was defeat a 3-12 Cardinals team that was entering the game with seven-straight losses.

It seemed like a piece of cake until Arizona was able to pull off a miracle in the fourth quarter. Up 17-6 with less than seven minutes to go, Minnesota appeared to be on their way to earning a spot in the 2003 playoffs.

But instead, the Cardinals were able to score 12 unanswered points that included a 28-yard touchdown pass from Josh McCown to Nate Poole as time expired in the fourth quarter.

The Vikings and their fans were left in shock and all anyone could do was just look down at the ground in disappointment. Minnesota appeared to be turning a corner during the first portion of the season, but then that all proved to just be too good to be true.
