4. David Morgan, tight end

If you ask me, the Vikings extended the wrong tight end. While Rudolph is an okay blocker and good pass catcher, he isn’t the pass catcher rookie Irv Smith Jr. looks to be or the blocker that David Morgan already is.

After spending so much money and investing in blockers so heavily in the draft and free agency, it would be disappointing to see the team’s best blocking tight end hit free agency following the 2019 season.

If he hits the open market, he will get paid more than most fans expect. While he wouldn’t be as expensive to sign as Waynes, Alexander, or Weatherly, his contributions as a blocker, he did play on nearly 22 percent of offensive plays last season, which is a solid time share.

It appears as though the team will be moving ahead with the receiving tight end duo of Smith and Rudolph heading into 2020. Even though Morgan doesn’t have an impressive stat line, he is a sneaky good pass catcher and a really good blocker.
