5. Anthony Harris, safety

The good news here is that Anthony Harris is currently on a tender to stay in Minnesota. The bad news is that that means the team will need to address his status once again once this season comes to an end.

This year, Harris is taking over as a starting safety for the departing Andrew Sendejo. Another really good season will see his price tag rise and put the Vikings in a tough situation where they will be paying more than they could have if they would have extended him sooner.

Pro Football Focus was hugely impressed with Harris last season. His overall defensive score of 89.0 with a coverage score of 87.1 and a tackling score of 88.4 put him among the elite at his position in 2018.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Anthony Harris after this season. Will he play so well that the Vikings have no chance of retaining him? Or will Minnesota somehow be able to bring him back after this year? Either way, the gamble could have been saved by locking him down this offseason.

While the Minnesota Vikings can’t be blamed for wanting to bring back Kyle Rudolph, the good things that could have been done with that salary cap at other positions can’t be ignored. Only time will tell if the team made the right decision.
