Sloter emerging as the No. 2 QB

Kirk Cousins is the Vikings’ starting quarterback for 2019 and there is no debate about that (as much as some may wish he wasn’t). Who will end up behind Cousins on the depth chart next season is something that Minnesota is currently trying to figure out.

Currently in contention to be the Vikings’ backup quarterback for 2019 is veteran Sean Mannion, an inexperienced Kyle Sloter, and rookie Jake Browning.

During Minnesota’s practice sessions over the past few weeks, Mannion and Sloter have been splitting the reps under center with the second-team offense. Browning is likely going to either need someone to get hurt or have an amazing training camp and preseason to make the Vikings’ final 2019 roster.

As for the other two, it seems like Sloter is currently performing better in practice than Mannion. Sloter hasn’t been blowing anyone away during practice, but he hasn’t been tossing interceptions all over the place like Mannion has either.

There’s still a lot of time left in this battle that likely won’t be determined until the final weeks of the preseason.
