Former Minnesota Vikings All-Pro running back Chuck Foreman believes the team’s current group of rushers may be the best the franchise has ever seen.

Before Adrian Peterson or Robert Smith ever put on a Minnesota Vikings uniform, Chuck Foreman was known as the greatest running back to ever play for the franchise. Some may even consider Foreman to actually still be the greatest rusher to ever suit up for the Vikings.

He could do it all during his tenure with Minnesota. Foreman gained over 1,000 rushing yards three times and hauled in at least 50 passes four times during his seven seasons with the Vikings.

Foreman recently had the opportunity to spend some time with Minnesota’s current group of running backs according to the Pioneer Press’ Chris Tomasson and he couldn’t help but rave about the talented rushers the team has this year.

"“This might be the best group of running backs from top to bottom that the Vikings ever have had in my opinion. I don’t know who they’re going to keep, but what I do know is all of them are NFL material.”"

This is certainly an interesting opinion considering what Peterson and Smith were able to do out on the field during their careers with the Vikings. Especially since none of Minnesota’s current backs have even played a full season in the NFL.

Making up the Vikings’ current running back depth chart is Dalvin Cook, Alexander Mattison, Mike Boone, Ameer Abdullah, and Roc Thomas.

Last season, Minnesota kept four running backs on the team when they set their final 53-man roster. So one has to assume that at least one of the Vikings’ current rushers won’t be around for their first regular season game this September.

Cook and Mattison seem like pretty solid locks to make Minnesota’s roster this year. But then the Vikings will need to see how training camp and the preseason turns out to help them decide if Abdullah, Boone, or Thomas will make the cut for the regular season.

According to Foreman though, Minnesota’s backfield will be just fine with whoever they choose to make their final 2019 roster.
