Trevor Siemian – QB

Why would the Vikings miss Trevor Siemian in 2019? He didn’t even play in a single game for Minnesota last season.

Well, despite Kirk Cousins not missing a start in over four years, the Vikings have been known to turn to their backup quarterback more often than not during their history. So having a decent backup is very important for a franchise like Minnesota.

If Cousins is forced to miss time due to an injury in 2019, the Vikings could be in a heap of trouble. Either Sean Mannion or Kyle Sloter would be inserted as Minnesota’s starting quarterback and neither of them have proven they’re capable of successfully running an NFL offense.

At least with Siemian, he’s shown in the past that he can win a few games if needed. The Vikings switching to a Gary Kubiak-influenced offense this year would have also made it even easier for the quarterback given his experience with the scheme.

Siemian likely wouldn’t put together a season like Case Keenum in 2017 or Randall Cunningham in 1998 if he was forced to play a bunch of games for Minnesota in 2019. But he probably would’ve still been a better backup option for the Vikings to have instead of Mannion or Sloter.
