Yahoo Sports’ Eric Edholm recently revealed some teams that he believes could draft a quarterback in 2020, including the Minnesota Vikings.

A major reason behind why the Minnesota Vikings went after Kirk Cousins in free agency last year was

to hopefully land a quarterback who could remain the team’s starter for more than a handful of seasons.

It’s still entirely possible that this is what could still be the outcome for Cousins and the Vikings. But Minnesota’s performance in his first season with the team has some thinking that they could be looking for a new passer as early as 2020.

Yahoo Sports’ Eric Edholm recently revealed a list of teams from around the league who he believes might be in need of a quarterback by the time the 2020 NFL Draft comes around. A total of 13 teams ended up on Edholm’s list, including the Vikings.

He, like many, thinks that Cousins’ performance during the upcoming season will determine if Minnesota drafts a quarterback in 2020 or not.

But even if the Vikings have another disappointing year with Cousins under center in 2019, Edholm doesn’t believe that this will necessarily result in the team using a first-round pick on a quarterback in 2020.

Instead, he thinks that Minnesota may use a mid-round selection to draft a young passer who can sit back and learn from the sidelines as Cousins plays out the final year of his current contract. Edholm thinks there is currently about a 50/50 chance of the Vikings selecting a quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Obviously, Cousins has a lot riding on his performance in 2019. How he plays and how successful Minnesota ends up will likely determine how the rest of his time in the league turns out.
