After selecting an interior blocker during this year’s NFL Draft, could the Minnesota Vikings look to add an offensive tackle with their first-round pick in 2020?

During Mike Zimmer’s tenure as the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings, one of the team’s lingering problems has been the performance of the offensive line.

The Vikings made a significant effort to improve the unit this offseason with the signing of free agent guard Josh Kline and the decision to use this year’s first-round draft selection on former North Carolina State center Garrett Bradbury.

Even with these additions, Minnesota could (and should) still look to upgrade the talent level on their offensive line by the time the NFL Draft comes around in 2020.

If the Vikings do end up taking this route next year, one young blocker they might be interested in is Georgia offensive tackle Andrew Thomas. CBS Sports’ Chris Trapasso believes Thomas is a 2020 prospect who would be a good fit for Minnesota.

"“Thomas is a monster. Flat out. His blend of overpowering strength and effortless movement in any direction make him essentially unbeatable on the left side on pass plays and a heat-seeking bulldozer for Georgia’s ground game. While the Bulldogs deploy a lot of power plays in their rushing attack, Thomas’ overall athletic talent theoretically is a fit for the zone-blocking scheme the Vikings are installing this season and presumably will use in 2020.”"

Trapasso mentions that the Vikings could possibly look to part ways with starting left tackle Riley Reiff next offseason. If this happens then he believes Thomas would be a great prospect for Minnesota to add as a potential replacement for Reiff.

With Georgia last season, Thomas’ outstanding play at left tackle resulted in him earning a First-Team All-American selection. Measuring in at 6-foot-5 and 320 pounds, the talented blocker also has some versatility to his game as he spent 2017 as the school’s starting right tackle.

Thomas will likely be one of the first offensive linemen to come off the draft board in 2020. But if he’s still available when it comes time for the Vikings to make their first selection, he would be a great addition to their roster.

Minnesota took some steps in the right direction to try and improve their offensive line this year. In 2020, they should continue to do the same.
