1998: Randy Moss, wide receiver – Round 1 (pick 21 overall)

This one is an obvious choice. Any time a team can draft a player who ends up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, there has to be some sense of pride attached to that selection. When it comes to Randy Moss, that pride extends through to the fan base to this day.

An athletic freak out of Marshall, it’s a bit surprising that Moss fell as far as he did in the draft considering all his natural talent. His ability to win one-on-one battles with defenders became legendary and to this day moments like that are called being “Mossed”.

If not for the career longevity of Cris Carter in Minnesota, Randy Moss would likely hold every receiving record for the Vikings. Instead, he sits in second place for most receiving yards, receptions, and receiving touchdowns.

It’s also strange that if not for how amazing Randy Moss was with the Vikings, Matt Birk would be on this list. That just shows how strong of a draft this was and how far it can go for a team who struggled at the draft to knock one out of the park.

Honorable mention: Matt Birk, C – Harvard (Round 6)
