1990: Terry Allen, running – Round 9 (pick 241 overall)

Minnesota made some interesting choices in the 1990 NFL Draft. They didn’t have a selection until the third round, but selected tight end Mike Jones who only caught two passes with the Vikings and a defensive end who ever even suited up in a regular season game for the purple and gold.

The best pick of the draft this year came when the team picked all the way down in the ninth round and selected Clemson running back Terry Allen, who was firmly placed behind the much-heralded Herschel Walker on the depth chart as a rookie.

In 1992, Allen became the full-time starter for Minnesota and put together an amazing season where he ran the ball 266 times for 1,201 yards and 13 touchdowns, adding 49 catches for 478 yards and two more scores.

He missed 1993 with a torn ACL but returned with another 1,000-yard rushing campaign in 1994. Sadly, he was only with the team from 1990 through 1994 and did quite a bit of damage with the Washingon Redskins after his exit.

Honorable mention: Marion Hobby, DE – Tennessee (Round 3)
