1996: Moe Williams, running back – Round 3 (pick 75 overall)

The Minnesota Vikings were knocking it out of the park in the 90s when it came to selecting offensive players. By the time the 1996 NFL Draft rolled around, the team had been filling up their roster with talent and were looking for some pieces to add to the mix.

One of those pieces came when the team selected Moe Williams out of Kentucky to pair with previous first-round draft pick Robert Smith. He may not have offered a lot of punch out of the gate, but it was his return to Minnesota in 2002 after one year with the Ravens when things really heated up for the running back.

Williams saw himself being the complementary piece the Vikings hoped he could be during the second stint with the team, proving to be both a solid running back who could be trusted to pick up slack as well as a more than capable receiver out of the backfield.

The 1996 NFL Draft was a bit of a soft one for the Vikings that saw many of their picks not really pan out…but at least Moe Williams contributed in a couple of great ways and stayed with the team for nine years. Plus, there is always that great lateral touchdown to talk about.

Honorable mention: Duane Clemons, DE – Cal (Round 1)
