Current Record: 22.0 (Jared Allen, 2011)

With Everson Griffen coming off his worst season since becoming a starter, Danielle Hunter seems like the best candidate on the current Vikings defense to have a shot at breaking Allen’s record in 2019.

Unlike Griffen, Hunter is coming off a great season. In 16 games last year, he finished with a career-high 14.5 sacks and he also earned his first invite to the Pro Bowl.

Despite only being a full-time starter on Minnesota’s defense for two of his four seasons in the NFL, Hunter has already accumulated a total of 40 sacks in his career.

It’s not an outlandish thought to have that the young Vikings defensive end could have the year of his life in 2019 and break Allen’s record. Like Hunter, Allen never had more than 14.5 sacks in a season with Minnesota before he exploded for 22 sacks in 2011.

Only 11 players in NFL since 1982 have finished a year with at least 20 sacks. Will Hunter be the 12th to do it in 2019?
