Undrafted Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Davion Davis has been turning heads this offseason with what he’s been doing during the team’s OTA and minicamp practices.

Each year, there seems to always be an undrafted free agent that comes out of nowhere to make the regular season roster for the Minnesota Vikings.

Guys like Chad Beebe, Tashawn Bower, Mike Boone, Anthony Harris, and Adam Thielen are some of the players who were able to overcome the odds of being undrafted and eventually earn a spot on Minnesota’s active roster.

For 2019, this is no different. The Vikings have another group of talented undrafted free agents who are ready to compete for roster spots during this year’s training camp and preseason.

One of these undrafted players to keep an eye on is a guy by the name of Davion Davis. A receiver who spent the last four years at Sam Houston State, Davis could be someone who emerges from the summer and finds a way to make Minnesota’s final 2019 roster.

During his last three seasons at Sam Houston State, the young receiver scored a whopping total of 39 touchdowns, including 19 in 2017.

Yes, Sam Houston State is an FCS school. But what Davis was able to do during his career there is still very impressive.

He’s definitely not the biggest receiver on the Vikings’ current roster (listed at 5-foot-11, 180 pounds). However, Davis makes up for his size with his ability to make tough catches and make plays with the ball in his hands (see some of his college highlights here).

Making plays is apparently what the undrafted receiver was doing this spring during Minnesota’s recent OTA and minicamp practices. Davis was getting opportunities as a pass catcher and as a punt returner for the Vikings during these practices.

His ability to return punts could be what helps him land a spot on Minnesota’s roster too. Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer likes his reserves to spend time on special teams as well, so Davis having skills as a returner should only help his chances to make the team’s 2019 roster.

With the start of Minnesota’s training camp beginning to approach even closer, this undrafted receiver is someone people should keep an eye out for this year. It’s quite possible that the Vikings might have even found themselves another diamond in the undrafted free agent pool.
