Backup Quarterback

Participants: Kyle Sloter, Sean Mannion, Jake Browning (R)

It’s hard to imagine Kyle Sloter not winning this battle. Sloter’s upside is just so much higher than either of the other two who will be competing for the role.

Sean Mannion has been a backup for his entire four-year career in the NFL. Despite how long Mannion has been in the league, he doesn’t really have much in-game experience (one start, 53 career pass attempts).

Jake Browning is an intriguing option, but the Vikings going with an undrafted rookie as their top backup quarterback for 2019 just doesn’t seem like something that is very likely. Even if Sloter and Mannion were to get hurt this summer, Minnesota would probably look to add a veteran free agent before making Browning their No. 2 guy behind Kirk Cousins.

Who wins this battle should come down to which quarterback gives the Vikings the best chance to win a game if Cousins has to miss any time during the season. In this case, that guy would be Sloter.

Prediction: Sloter wins the job
