7 best single-season performances in Vikings history
By Adam Patrick
6. Randall Cunningham (1998)
Stats:
- 3,704 passing yards, 34 touchdowns, 10 interceptions
- 132 rushing yards, 1 touchdown
If not for Brad Johnson going down with an injury during the Vikings’ second game, we might have never seen this magical performance from Randall Cunningham in 1998.
After his first three starts, Cunningham had already thrown for 937 yards, nine touchdowns, and no interceptions. Minnesota eventually made the easy decision to keep him as their starting quarterback for rest of the season and it resulted in the team winning 15 games.
Best Game: Week 5 at Green Bay
This was the contest that saw Cunningham and the Vikings put the rest of the NFL on notice. The Minnesota signal-caller finished with a nearly perfect quarterback rating (145.8) after throwing for 442 yards and four touchdowns to help lead his team to a win over the Packers.
