7 best single-season performances in Vikings history
By Adam Patrick
4. Jared Allen (2011)
Stats:
- 66 tackles, 32 quarterback hits, 22 sacks
- 4 forced fumbles, 4 fumble recoveries, 1 interception
Acquired by the Vikings in 2008, Jared Allen put up some very respectable sack totals during his first few seasons in the Twin Cities. But despite his previous production, what Allen was able to do in 2011 was still something that not many really saw coming.
In 2010, the veteran Minnesota pass rusher only ended the year with 11 sacks. It was his lowest single-season total since he was acquired by the Vikings.
But then came 2011 and Allen exploded for 22 sacks. His sack total broke Minnesota’s single-season sack record previously held by Hall of Famer Chris Doleman.
Best Game: Week 17 vs. Chicago
Allen began this matchup against the Bears with his 2011 sack total at 18.5. He then proceeded to dominate Chicago’s offensive line and add an impressive 3.5 more sacks to his season total.
