Right Tackle: Brian O’Neill

If there was one thing that went for the Minnesota Vikings along the offensive line last season, it was the quick development of right tackle Brian O’Neill. When O’Neill was drafted in the second round out of Pittsburgh in 2018, many thought that the converted tight end would need a “redshirt” year before contributing to the Vikings offense. When Rashod Hill laid an egg at the beginning of the year, O’Neill stepped in at right tackle and never looked back.

O’Neill’s rookie season was something that the Vikings can look toward as a cornerstone as they rebuild their offensive line. Pro Football Focus didn’t charge him with a sack allowed in 2018 and as the Vikings acquire more talent around him, there’s a chance he could take another step forward this season.

In order for that to happen, O’Neill will need to continue to add strength and learn more techniques as he learns the position. If he continues to do both, he might not only solidify one end of the Vikings’ offensive line in 2019, but a shift to left tackle could be in his future once Riley Reiff leaves Minnesota.
