Talented rookie class
Rookies haven’t typically seen the field very much for the Vikings during Mike Zimmer’s tenure as the team’s head coach. There have been a few exceptions, but for the most part, Minnesota’s players who are in their first year in the NFL normally don’t get too many snaps.
But this season could be a different story. The Vikings have at least three players from their 2019 draft class who may play a significant role for the team this year.
Garrett Bradbury has already been penciled in as Minnesota’s starting center, Irv Smith Jr. is expected to get a good amount of playing time in the team’s new offensive scheme, and Alexander Mattison could open the season as the No. 2 running back behind Dalvin Cook.
In addition to these three, there are a few other rookies that could make an impact for the Vikings in 2019 including guard Dru Samia, safety Marcus Epps, corner Kris Boyd, and wide receiver Dillion Mitchell.
With Minnesota lacking the cap space to add a bunch of veteran free agents this offseason, they are relying on their draft class to help them perform better in 2019. Judging by the young talent they were able to add this year, it looks like a decision that has a good chance to pay off.
