Kirk Cousins predicted to sign an extension with the Vikings

ESPN’s Dan Graziano believes the Minnesota Vikings quarterback will sign another contract with the team before his current deal runs out in 2021.
When Kirk Cousins signed with the Minnesota Vikings last offseason, his deal was unique for a number of reasons.
Obviously, it was the largest fully guaranteed contract for a quarterback in NFL history, but the length of the deal (three years) wasn’t as long as some had envisioned. However, the length of the deal is actually beneficial for both Cousins and the Vikings.
If the quarterback doesn’t end up meeting his expectations during his three seasons with Minnesota, then the team can just cut ties with him and look elsewhere for a new signal-caller once his contract expires in 2021.
But if Cousins is able to be productive during the next two seasons, he could easily enter free agency again in 2021 and sign another lucrative deal with someone other than the Vikings.
ESPN’s Dan Graziano recently made some NFL predictions for the next four years and he believes that Cousins will end up signing an extension to stay in Minnesota before his current deal runs out.
"“I’m fairly bullish on Cousins and the Vikings this season. I think they’ll win the NFC North and that fans will feel very differently about Cousins this time next year, when he’ll have a year left on his three-year contract and could very well be interested in talking about an extension that would keep him and his family in Minnesota for years to come.”"
At this point, it seems like a safe bet to make. Cousins has a great opportunity to help the Vikings get back on track in 2019 and the organization is known for extending the best players on their roster.
If the quarterback were able to perform well this year, it would surprise no one if Minnesota attempted to extend his deal before the start of the 2020 season.
Obviously, plans can change in an instant (especially for the Vikings) and nobody truly knows what exactly will happen throughout the rest of Cousins’ contract. But him remaining in Minnesota past the duration of his current deal seems like a scenario that isn’t too hard to envision happening.
