Despite the Green Bay Packers only winning six games last year, they still have better Super Bowl odds than the Minnesota Vikings this season?
Week 16 of the 2016 season is the last time the Green Bay Packers were able to come out of a matchup against the Minnesota Vikings with a win. In fact, the Vikings have just one loss in their last seven games against the Packers.
During the last three years, Minnesota has also won a total of six more games during the regular season than Green Bay. Aaron Rodgers being injured can’t even be an excuse for the Packers having fewer wins than the Vikings since 2016 since the quarterback has appeared in more than 80 percent of Green Bay’s matchups during this time period.
Despite all of this, the Packers still have better odds than Minnesota to win the Super Bowl during the upcoming season.
Currently, Green Bay’s Super Bowl odds are at 18/1 and the Vikings’ odds are at 25/1. Even before the 2019 offseason began, the Packers still had better Super Bowl odds (18/1) than Minnesota (20/1).
Yes, Green Bay signed a pair of talented linebackers in Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith in free agency this year. But these moves are not going to make the Packers any better on defense than the Vikings in 2019.
Minnesota still has a good amount of players from their 2017 run to the NFC Championship and Green Bay is about to begin their first season with a brand new head coach. What could possibly be swaying oddsmakers to think the Packers have a better chance to win the Super Bowl this year than the Vikings?
Rodgers being under center is always going to give Green Bay a boost in odds every year, no matter what. But what has been the Packers’ excuse for their lack of success over the last three seasons with the All-Pro quarterback out on the field?
If it seems like Minnesota is being given the short end of the stick here when it comes to their Super Bowl odds, it’s because they are. There is absolutely no reason the Vikings should have lower odds than Green Bay at this point in the year.
If anything, Minnesota’s current Super Bowl odds should actually be better than the Packers’ odds. The Vikings’ chance of winning the big game in 2019 seems much more likely than a team like Green Bay who has a new head coach and has missed the playoffs in each of the last two seasons.
