Jake Browning – QB

Throughout the offseason, the fight for the Vikings’ No. 2 quarterback job has been one of the position battles people have been focusing on the most. But what about the battle to be Minnesota’s No. 3 signal-caller in 2019?

What if Jake Browning can emerge as the top choice to be the Vikings’ third quarterback this season? It shouldn’t be that big of a surprise, considering the guys he will be competing with.

Behind Kirk Cousins on Minnesota’s quarterback depth chart this year are Browning, Kyle Sloter, and Sean Mannion. Out of these three, Mannion and his 53-career pass attempts is the only one with actual in-game experience.

Thanks to the talent level of the guys he’ll be competing with being fairly similar, Browning has a great opportunity to make the Vikings’ 2019 roster.

Minnesota at least thinks the former Washington quarterback has a chance to be something useful in the NFL one day. Despite him being an undrafted free agent, the Vikings reportedly still gave Browning a contract that included $140,000 in guaranteed money (Minnesota didn’t include any guaranteed money in their deal with Sloter).

The Vikings have kept three quarterbacks on their roster in three of Mike Zimmer’s five years with the team, so there’s a decent chance that it may be the case again for 2019. If Browning plays well enough during training camp and the preseason, then it would seem pretty likely that Minnesota will enter the upcoming season with three signal-callers on their roster.
