Mike Boone – RB

Ever since the Vikings selected former Boise State running back Alexander Mattison in the third round of this year’s NFL Draft, the thought has been that the rookie will likely open the regular season as Dalvin Cook’s backup.

However, Mike Boone proved last year that he deserves a spot on Minnesota’s roster just as much as any other guy.

Boone was relatively unknown prior to the Vikings’ 2018 training camp and preseason. That was until he used his opportunities during the summer to earn a spot on Minnesota’s final roster. Who’s to say he won’t do that again this year?

Boone probably should have been utilized more last season, especially when Cook had to miss time with an injured hamstring. But since pass-happy John DeFilippo was calling the plays for the Vikings, the talented running back was left standing on the sidelines more often than not.

It wouldn’t be that surprising if Boone uses his lack of playing time in 2018 as motivation to perform even better during this year’s training camp. And if he does, don’t be shocked to see him open up the season as the Vikings’ No. 2 running back.
