Kirk Cousins doesn’t throw for 4,000 yards
A big reason why the Vikings decided to give Kirk Cousins a fully-guaranteed, $84 million contract last year was his ability to consistently put up impressive passing numbers during his career.
Prior to signing with Minnesota, Cousins threw for at least 4,000 yards and 25 touchdowns from 2015 to 2017 as a member of the Washington Redskins. He continued his streak of finishing with over 4,000 passing yards last season with the Vikings when he ended the year with 4,298 yards.
However, it took Cousins a lot of passing attempts to get over 4,000 yards last season. His 606 pass attempts last year ended up being the fourth-most in the league.
With Kevin Stefanski and Gary Kubiak now running the offense in Minnesota, Cousins throwing the ball 600 times doesn’t seem very likely. Which means it may be hard for him to finish with his fifth-straight season with at least 4,000 passing yards.
Mike Zimmer has been able to experience success since becoming the Vikings’ head coach and he has done it without his quarterback throwing for over 4,000 yards. So with Minnesota aiming to be more balanced on offense in 2019, Cousins should see his streak come to an end.
