Trae Waynes leads the team in interceptions

Among the top Vikings storylines during the 2019 offseason was the status of cornerback Trae Waynes. Entering the final year of his rookie contract with Minnesota, Waynes has been the subject of numerous trade rumors over the last few months.

Nothing ever came of these rumors so now the Vikings corner is currently preparing for arguably the most important season of his NFL career. How Waynes plays in 2019 will likely determine how big of a contract he gets from Minnesota or some other team during next year’s offseason.

With this in the back of his mind, the Vikings corner is going to be on the prowl to come up with a bunch of big plays in 2019. And when it comes to cornerbacks in the league, there is no bigger play than an interception.

Waynes has never had more than three picks in a single season in either college or the pros, but the cornerback will set a new personal best in 2019. Expect Waynes to finish the season with at least five interceptions and make Minnesota’s decision to re-sign him or not in 2020 even harder.
