Corner depth is no longer a strength

Even with Mike Hughes recovering from a torn ACL, cornerback was believed to be one of the deepest position groups on the Vikings’ roster this year. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

Hughes is starting camp on the PUP list and his status for the beginning of the season is still uncertain. Combine this with Holton Hill being handed an additional four-game suspension and Minnesota is one injury away from their cornerback depth being in the dumps for 2019.

The Vikings are doing their part in trying to make sure this position group is still a strength for this season though. Minnesota has brought in a few free-agent corners to work out for the team over the past two days and it’s possible that one of them could end up on their roster sooner than later.

One of Mike Zimmer’s strengths throughout his coaching career has been his ability to get the most out of the corners in his defense. Zimmer might have his work cut out for him this year though if the Vikings’ secondary ends up getting hit by the injury bug.
