Vikings Training Camp 2019: Top 4 takeaways from Day 1
By Adam Patrick
Kicking game still causing headaches
Hey, remember how everyone was hoping that a new special teams coach would help turnaround the Vikings’ kicking game in 2019? Yeah, well Friday’s practice doesn’t make it seem like much as changed in this department.
Minnesota kicker Dan Bailey attempted seven field goals on Friday and he missed three of them. Bailey’s final miss on a 47-yard attempt actually resulted in Mike Zimmer making the team run at the end of practice.
Now, this is only the Vikings’ first full practice of training camp and their kicking situation still has plenty of time to get back on track. But if Bailey keeps having days like he did on Friday, then Minnesota is seriously going to have to consider bringing in another kicker to compete for the job.
Is anyone else sick of talking about the Vikings’ struggling in the kicking game? This seems like a problem that should have been fixed a long time ago and Minnesota just keeps finding new ways to mess it up.
For the Vikings’ sake, let’s just hope Bailey’s performance on Friday was just bit of early camp jitters and he gets everything sorted out sooner than later.
