The depth at defensive end for the Minnesota Vikings took a hit when it was revealed that Tashawn Bower suffered a torn Achilles tendon before the season.

When talking about the deepest units on the Minnesota Vikings roster, odds are that the top two positions to be discussed would be the defensive ends and cornerbacks. Both those spots took a hit this week, as bad news arrived.

Of course, there is already the disheartening news that Holton Hill will be suspended for an additional four games, forcing the defensive back to miss half the regular season. Now, it is unfortunate that a defensive end will likely miss the entire year.

During a press conference today, head coach Mike Zimmer revealed that third-year pass rusher Tashawn Bower has suffered a torn Achilles tendon. The news was reported on the official Twitter account of the Minnesota Vikings.

For a tear of this nature to heal, four to six months that it takes up to four to six months to heal, and then additional time is needed to rehabilitate the injury and prepare for NFL action. So, it is estimated that around eleven months are necessary.

According to Ben Goessling on Twitter, the injury happened on a workout outside of team activities.  Zimmer did not reveal the date of the injury, but it is likely Bower will miss significant time. The team has already placed on him on the Active/Non-Football Injury list.

It is very disappointing for a promising young defensive end to miss time during the season due to injury, but it also opens the door for another player at the position to make a name for themselves and find a spot on the 53-man roster.

Behind Bower on the depth chart, there are some individuals who have shown potential. AAF standout Karter Schult will be one to watch while Ifeadi Odenigbo, Ade Aruna, and others compete for a spot.

However, we at The Viking Age would like to wish Tashawn Bower a full and speedy recovery, Hopefully, even if he is unable to play this year, the defensive end can return to the Minnesota Vikings in 2020 since he will become a restricted free agent after this season.
