Punt return job is wide open

With Marcus Sherels now a member of the New Orleans Saints, the Vikings are in need of a new punt returner for the first time since 2011.

So far, it’s clear that Minnesota has absolutely no idea who they want as Sherels’ replacement this season. More than 10 players took turns returning punts during practice on Saturday including Chad Beebe, Adam Thielen, Stefon Diggs, Ameer Abdullah, Holton Hill, Davion Davis, Jordan Taylor, and Dillon Mitchell.

It seems highly unlikely that Thielen or Diggs would end up with the job considering how important each of them are to the Vikings’ offense. Other than those two though, there isn’t really anyone else from this group that should be ruled out for the job in 2019.

Abdullah, Taylor, and Beebe seem like the favorites for now. But don’t count out some of the rookies like Davis or Mitchell to win the role either. Minnesota’s preseason games will definitely be vital in determining who gets this job.
