Practice got a little more intense on Sunday for the Minnesota Vikings as players took the field in pads for the first time at this year’s training camp.

So far during this year’s training camp for the Minnesota Vikings, players have been practicing without any pads on. Well, that changed on Sunday as the Vikings hit the field at the TCO Performance Center for their first padded practice of camp.

With the pads on, Minnesota’s coaches are able to better evaluate some of the position groups that require more physicality like the offensive and defensive lines.

Brandon Zylstra, David Morgan, Mike Hughes, and Shamar Stephen still remained non-participants in Sunday’s practice. Jalyn Holmes, who injured his leg on Saturday, and Jeff Badet also stood on the sidelines during the Vikings’ third full-team session of camp.

With these guys dealing with injuries, other members of the roster were given some big opportunities on Sunday. Thanks to Holmes and Stephen being out, young players like Hercules Mata’afa and Armon Watts got the chance to move up and play on the interior of the first and second-team defensive lines.

Along with some of the younger guys getting more reps on the defensive line, what were some of the other things that happened during Minnesota’s training camp practice on Sunday?
