What is the secret behind Kirk Cousins’ ability to stay healthy?
By Adam Patrick
The Minnesota Vikings starting quarterback hasn’t missed a game in over four years and it may be due to his use of a hyperbaric chamber.
In his first year as the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings, Kirk Cousins had a lot of pressure in his face from pretty much every opposing defense. Cousins was sacked 40 times in 2018, the second-highest single-season amount he’s endured during his seven-years in the NFL.
Despite all the hits he took last season, the Vikings quarterback didn’t miss a start. In fact, Cousins hasn’t missed a game under center since he became a full-time starter for the Washington Redskins back in 2015.
So how is he able to remain so healthy even with all the punishment he takes out on the field each week? Well, Cousins uses a variety of methods and one includes sometimes sleeping in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber.
The Minnesota quarterback recently revealed that he uses a hyperbaric chamber to help his body recover from getting pummeled by giant people for a living.
Typically, these devices can be pretty expensive to purchase (as much as $20,000). But given that Cousins is known for being a guy who likes to find a good bargain, his hyperbaric chamber is actually a used model that he said cost around half as much as what he would have paid if it were purchased brand new.
For those who are unfamiliar with how these devices work, hyperbaric chambers supposedly have the ability to decrease the recovery time for injuries.
When someone is inside the device, their body generates more oxygen due to the air pressure inside being three times as high as the normal air pressure level outside of the device. The extra oxygen is then used by the blood to help heal the body and prevent infections.
Cousins hasn’t missed a game in a long time, so this machine is obviously having some sort of impact on his ability to stay healthy.
