Vikings Training Camp 2019: Top 4 takeaways from Day 5
By Adam Patrick
Red zone offense looks sharp
When it came to scoring touchdowns in the red zone last year, the Vikings ranked in the bottom third of the NFL (21st to be exact). So it is definitely an area of Minnesota’s offense that they need to improve before the start of the regular season.
On Wednesday, the Vikings spent time working on this aspect of their offense and it seemed to go pretty well. At least this was the case when the first-team offense was on the field.
Minnesota quarterback Kirk Cousins ended up throwing a total of four touchdowns during the red zone work that the team did during Wednesday’s practice. Kyle Rudolph was on the receiving end of two of these passes, Tyler Conklin hauled in one, and Adam Thielen also snagged a pass for a score.
As good as the offense apparently looked in these red-zone situations, one has to believe that the Vikings’ defense can’t be happy with the plays they gave up.
Expect Minnesota’s red zone work to be some of the most competitive portions of their practices for the rest of this year’s training camp.
