Vikings Training Camp 2019: Top 4 takeaways from Day 7
By Adam Patrick
Defense continues to step up
A day after the defense was called out by Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer for not having enough fight as the offense during this year’s camp, the unit came out and had a good performance for the second-straight practice in a row.
Even without Everson Griffen, Xavier Rhodes, Harrison Smith, and Linval Joseph out there on Friday, the Minnesota defense was still able to prove why they have been one of the best in the NFL during the last few seasons.
There was one instance during Friday’s practice that saw the Vikings’ defense frustrate the first-team offense so much that quarterback Kirk Cousins was seen slamming his helmet to the ground.
It’s nice to see Minnesota’s defense getting closer to being a dominant unit again during this year’s camp. It seemed like the Vikings’ offense had their number during the beginning of training camp, but things have appeared to settle down a bit and the defense is back to doing what they do best.
