Vikings Training Camp 2019: Top 4 takeaways from Day 7

Wile is the holder, for now
After a rough first day of practice from kicker Dan Bailey, the Vikings didn’t waste any time in trying to figure out what root of the problem was.
Almost a week after Bailey’s bad afternoon, Minnesota is still giving multiple players reps as the team’s holder on field goal attempts. On Friday, it was receiver Chad Beebe’s turn to get some time in as the holder.
Despite the Vikings giving a bunch of guys reps at holder, special teams coach Marwan Maalouf said on Friday that punter Matt Wile is still currently the team’s primary holder. Maalouf explained that the team using other guys in the role during practice is just to find out how many players on the roster are capable of doing the job well.
So Wile is at least Minnesota’s holder for the time being. But would anyone be surprised if Mike Zimmer threw someone else out there in the role during a game if Wile fumbled a snap or caused some other mishap on a field goal attempt?
Zimmer is not one to normally make calm, rational decisions when it comes to the kicking game, so hopefully, he doesn’t have to get too involved with it in 2019.
