5 early standouts from the Vikings 2019 training camp

Mackensie Alexander – CB
This upcoming season is arguably the most important in Mackensie Alexander’s NFL career. Alexander is in the final year of his current deal with the Vikings and if he plays well in 2019, he could potentially be in for a big payday during the next offseason when he is a free agent.
In Minnesota’s training camp this year, the young corner is definitely playing like his career could be on the line.
With Mike Hughes still recovering from his knee injury, Alexander has been getting all of the reps as the Vikings’ slot corner in their nickel defense. He’s done well in the role and it’s even resulted in some praise from Mike Zimmer.
Zimmer recently talked about Alexander’s progression since he’s been in the league saying, “he’s probably changed as far as work ethic and attitude more than any guy I’ve coached.”
With Hughes not expected to be 100 percent for the start of the season, Minnesota will need Alexander to continue to perform well in the slot. But that shouldn’t be much of a problem based on how he’s played in training camp so far.
