The Minnesota Vikings have a new member of their roster after reportedly agreeing to a deal with free-agent cornerback Bene Benwikere.
Since the beginning of this year’s training camp, the Minnesota Vikings have expressed interest in adding another cornerback to their team. Well, it appears that the Vikings have finally decided on a guy to bring in.
Minnesota and free-agent corner Bene Benwikere have reportedly agreed to a deal according to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo on Saturday.
Benwikere was originally drafted by the Carolina Panthers in 2014, but since 2016 he’s had stints with the Miami Dolphins, Green Bay Packers, Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, Arizona Cardinals, and Oakland Raiders.
Last season, he started in eight games for the Cardinals and he finished with a total of 54 tackles, four pass breakups, one interception, and one forced fumble.
With his experience in the league, Benwikere should have a good chance to make the Vikings’ final 2019 roster. Especially with Mike Hughes status for the beginning of the season still unknown and Holton Hill being suspended for Minnesota’s first eight games of the year.
Speaking of Hill, this signing may end up being what allows the Vikings to part ways with the young corner. If Benwikere is able to pick up the defense pretty quickly and impress Mike Zimmer enough, then Hill could be shown the door before the season begins.
Before signing Benwikere, Minnesota worked out a good amount of free agent corners including Orlando Scandrick, Dexter McDonald, and Mo Claiborne. In the end though, it is Benwikere who has landed a job with the Vikings.
