3 Saints players who could help the Vikings in 2019
By Nik Edlund
Michael Thomas – WR
What makes this one sting, even more, is that the Vikings could’ve had Michael Thomas in the 2016 NFL Draft but elected to take Laquon Treadwell instead. Minnesota general manager Rick Spielman and the entire team’s scouting staff just flat out made the wrong choice.
Thomas has been a beast since being drafted by the Saints. Obviously, it helps to play with a future Hall of Fame quarterback, but Thomas is a rare talent himself.
In three seasons he’s caught 321 passes, which is nearly 10 times more than Treadwell’s total during that same time period. Thomas has also tallied 3,787 yards and 23 touchdowns during the last three years. That’s insane production and a big reason why he was recently paid a king’s ransom.
How Thomas would fit in with the Vikings would be interesting. He’d likely play on the outside with Adam Thielen moving to the slot. Thomas would give Kirk Cousins something he doesn’t currently have, which is a big target who can go up and make the tough grab when he’s got a guy hanging off of him.
This would easily become the most talented trio of wide receivers in the league and the only issue would be if there were enough footballs to feed them all.
The other issue would be Minnesota’s lack of funds to pay them all. But with Thomas on the team, this season it would be Super Bowl or bust and this thing would get blown up one way or the other in 2020.
