Minnesota Vikings should show interest in free agent D’Onta Foreman

With D’Onta Foreman being waived by Houston, the Minnesota Vikings should want to take a look at the free agent running back to add depth to the position.
Yesterday, the Houston Texans made the tough decision to release running back D’Onta Foreman, who was a third-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. While he is now free to sign anywhere, the Minnesota Vikings should at least kick the tires on him.
Minnesota is in an odd position. They lost their backup running back in free agency, released one due to problems off the field, and have questionable depth behind starter Dalvin Cook. While Alexander Mattison shows potential, he is rookie with a lot to prove and carryover Mike Boone only has eleven career rushing attempts.
Foreman could bring a bit of experience to the backfield. In 2017, he carried the ball 78 times for the Texans and averaged 4.2 yards per rushing attempt. His best output game against Arizona, where he rushed for 65 yards on ten attempts and found the end zone twice while adding three catches for 15 yards.
The question of why Houston parted ways with Foreman is one that is interesting. There are reports that his work ethic isn’t up to par, but if that isn’t the case and he’s willing to work hard for the Vikings, he should be welcomed with open arms if the price is right. And rumors that the Texans let him to in order to pursue a trade for Melvin Gordon already seem like they have been stopped cold in their tracks.
The 6-1, 236-pound running back might be available at a price that the purple and gold could afford. If the team decides not to keep Ameer Abdullah as a return man, they could have a spot on the roster for the former University of Texas at Austin standout.
If no other team makes a play for Foreman within the first few days of his time as a free agent, there is no harm in the Minnesota Vikings taking a look at the running back if they can get him for close to the league minimum. Or they could stand firm with who they have in camp and roll the dice that they can get production from Mattison and Boone if Cook is forced to miss time.
