Vikings Training Camp 2019: Top 4 takeaways from Day 10

Holmes taking control as backup three-technique
Following Monday’s practice, the Vikings released their first unofficial depth chart of the year and listed as Shamar Stephen’s current backup at the three-technique spot is Jalyn Holmes.
He’s listed ahead of Hercules Mata’afa and it’s a little surprising given that Holmes has missed some practice time in camp this year. But apparently, Minnesota likes what they’ve seen from the second-year defensive tackle during the practices he’s actually participated in.
With Stephen still not taking part in team drills, Holmes got even more opportunities to work with the first-team defense on Tuesday. His reps with the No. 1 defense seem to be increasing during each practice.
Holmes may have the lead over Mata’afa in their position battle for now. But with the Vikings still having four preseason games to play this year, this has plenty of time to change before the start of the regular season.
