Devine Ozigbo – RB

I was shocked to see Devine Ozigbo go undrafted this year. This guy had a big year at Nebraska as a senior and he racked up nearly 1,100 yards on the ground and 12 touchdowns. He was generating a lot of buzz late in the draft season and he was seen by most as being a potential mid-round selection.

Apparently, the reason he went undrafted was that he only had that one really productive season in college. The Saints were lucky enough to sign this guy after the draft and so far, he’s been impressive in training camp.

Ozigbo is a one cut and go type of runner, with a powerful lower body, good vision, and balance. He can also be an asset as a receiver out of the backfield as he caught 23 passes for Nebraska last year.

Where Ozigbo has impressed New Orleans the most is in pass protection. This guy has stepped up and made some nice blocks and that is what really gets coaches excited about a young ball carrier. He’s also gotten some reps with the second team as former Vikings running back Latavius Murray has been out with an injury. It looks quite likely that Ozigbo will make the Saints’ 2019 roster.

Minnesota did have Ozigbo in for a couple of visits during the 2019 draft season and he had to have been on their radar. They ultimately decided to go with Alexander Mattison and it’ll be fun to watch who has the better performance this Friday night.
