Special teams (3)

Last year was a frustrating one again for special teams. Missed field goals, bad holds, and more marred what should be a mechanical process. Still, the Vikings are doing their best to find a combination that can handle kicks and punts.

Here are the players on special teams projected to be on the team’s 53-man roster:

  1. Matt Wile
  2. Dan Bailey
  3. Kevin McDermott

Two out of three of these are simple. There is no competition in camp for Wile or Bailey, so it looks like they will be the ones to get the nod for the 53 man roster. There is still a concern for holds and kicks, but the duo looked good when it comes to holding, punting, and kicks in their first exhibition game.

McDermott is the only one of the three with direct competition in camp. The team used a seventh-round pick on long snapper Austin Cutting, who has a complicated situation with the Air Force when it comes to his NFL status. Even though he is cleared to play with the Vikings, he might end up on the practice squad if he can’t figure out a way to beat McDermott.

Who do you think will be on the team’s 53 man roster when Week 1 of the 2019 NFL season arrives? And which underdogs are you rooting for to make a good impression? Let us know in the comments!
