Bigger need for a fullback

After the first preseason game, Minnesota appears to value the fullback position more than they did last year. They utilized them early and often in their meeting with the New Orleans Saints last Friday.

C.J. Ham has been the Vikings’ fullback for the last two seasons. He is a fan-favorite as a local product and has done well in his young career.

But Minnesota has Khari Blasingame on the roster as well. He caught three passes for 28 yards and a touchdown in the preseason opener.

Mike Zimmer and the Vikings are no strangers to going younger to decide the outcome of a position battle. Minnesota just cut veteran long snapper Kevin McDermott in favor of rookie Austin Cutting.

Ham is only 26-years-old, but his Vikings tenure could possibly be coming to an end before the regular season. Either way, Minnesota will begin the year with a fullback on their roster.
