Offensive MVP – Kyle Sloter, quarterback

Last week looked like it was pretty close to a draw between Kyle Sloter and Sean Mannion, both of whom are likely still competing to be the primary backup for Minnesota Vikings starting quarterback Kirk Cousins. Week 2 didn’t see the same results.

While Mannion looked decent aside from one ugly pick-six, Sloter closed the gap by putting together a game which saw him complete 11 of his 13 passes for 116 yards and one touchdown with no interceptions.

Sloter’s favorite target this game was Laquon Treadwell, which was surprising. The two connected on multiple first-down throws, raising the stock of both players. It was nice hearing Treadwell’s name during the broadcast, and much of that was thanks to the crisp, accurate passes from his quarterback.

Whether or not Sloter can close the gap between him and Mannion by the time the regular season rolls around will need to be seen. However, if the quarterback we’ve seen in the preseason is the passer he would be as a backup, that should force the coaches and staff to re-evaluate their chart.
