Vikings still being cautious with Cook
During the week leading up to the team’s preseason showdown with Seattle on Sunday, Minnesota head coach Mike Zimmer seemed to indicate that running back Dalvin Cook would likely be suiting up for the matchup after sitting out the Vikings’ preseason opener against the Saints.
However, when Minnesota’s offense took the field for their first drive of the game on Sunday, Cook was not among those included. Instead, he was seen on the sidelines without his pads on for the second-straight week.
Apparently, the Vikings are doing everything they can to keep Cook as healthy as possible for the regular season. After not appearing in Minnesota’s first two preseason games of 2019, it’s hard to imagine him suiting up for the team’s third exhibition contest next week.
At least Cook’s absence is allowing some of the younger running backs on the Vikings’ roster to get some valuable reps in the preseason. Especially Mike Boone, who had another great performance on Sunday and seems to likely be heading towards earning a spot on Minnesota’s final roster for the second year in a row.
