While you are weighing the risks of Dalvin Cook, you should also weigh the options of the entire running back room for the Vikings this year.

This includes guys like Alexander Mattison, Mike Boone, and Ameer Abdullah. In all likelihood, one of these players will be cut before the regular season. But in a world where Minnesota keeps four running backs, these three need to be held with a lot of risk to them.

Sure, with Cook missing a lot of time in his NFL career with injuries, drafting a guy like Mattison on your fantasy team and handcuffing him to Cook seems to be a good option. But are we sure Mattison has done enough to be locked in as the Vikings’ number two guy this season?

Boone has looked very sharp this preseason and he could give Mattison a run for his money. There are not a lot of times that you look at the No. 2 running back and think the role may consist of some type of timeshare between two players. But that’s exactly what you could be dealing with if you decide to draft Mattison, Boone, or Abdullah this year.

You can also make the same case when talking about the offensive line. Minnesota was one of the worst teams in the league last year when it came to rushing the football. They just couldn’t seem to open up holes for the backs to run through.

It’s something to weigh as a risk, but it should also be something that’s improved upon as we get closer to the first week of the regular season.
